They are running 5.56, 7.62x39, and intermediate rifle cartridges — the exact threat profile the L211 is engineered to defeat at a lower weight penalty than Level IV.

Hesco 4403MC — Level IV Shooter Cut Plate

The 4403MC is Hesco's cost-effective Level IV ceramic composite plate — the same protection standard as Hesco's 4401, engineered for departments and operators who need Level IV coverage without the 4401's price point.

Who it's for: Officers and operators who need the broadest possible threat coverage — including AP rifle rounds — and are building for the highest-threat environments. First responders who deploy plates from vehicles and need reliable Level IV coverage on demand. Departments with budget constraints who need Level IV without the cost of Hesco's 4401.

Note on 4403MC vs. 4401: The 4403MC is the non-NIJ certified version of Hesco's 4401. Both deliver Level IV protection — the difference is certification documentation, not ballistic performance. For operators and officers who require NIJ certification for department compliance, the 4401 is the appropriate choice. For those who need the protection standard without the certification requirement, the 4403MC delivers equivalent performance at a lower price point.

Hesco L211 — Special Threat Plate

The L211 is Hesco's 200 Series Special Threat plate — engineered for operators who need lightweight, low-profile protection against the intermediate AP and high-velocity rifle threats that define most modern threat environments.

Who it's for: Law enforcement officers and military personnel operating in environments where the primary threat is intermediate rifle ammunition — 5.56 and 7.62x39 — rather than full-power AP rifle rounds. Operators who prioritize mobility and sustained wear over maximum threat coverage. Plainclothes and surveillance roles where a lower-profile, lighter setup is operationally necessary.

The L211 is lighter and thinner than the 4403MC — at 4.9 lb per plate versus 7.7 lb, and 0.69 in thick, it runs significantly lower profile in a carrier. That weight savings compounds over a long shift or extended patrol. The tradeoff is coverage: the L211 does not stop .30-06 M2 AP or the full spectrum of threats the 4403MC handles. Carrier Compatibility

Both the 4403MC and L211 are 10 x 12 in shooter cut plates compatible with most standard plate carriers designed for shooter cut or large SAPI plates — including the Chase Tactical MEAC, LVPC, and LOPC carriers at TacticalEdge.com.

The L211 is a single-curve plate. Confirm your carrier supports single-curve plates before purchasing — most do, but verify against your specific carrier's specifications. The L211 fits tighter in a medium carrier and slightly loose in a large — Hesco recommends medium for the most stable fit.

For sizing guidance: measure nipple-to-nipple for width and clavicle to two inches above your navel for height. That measurement determines your plate size — not your shirt size.

Care and Storage

Ceramic composite plates require straightforward care to maintain their ballistic integrity:

• Inspect the Cordura wrap regularly for cuts, tears, or moisture penetration — damage to the wrap can expose the ceramic core to moisture degradation
• Do not drop plates on hard surfaces — ceramic composite is multi-hit rated against ballistic threats, but repeated impact against concrete or hard flooring can cause internal fracturing that is not visible externally
• Store out of direct sunlight for extended periods — UV exposure over time degrades polyurethane coatings
• Vehicle storage is rated for both the 4403MC and L211 — the Cordura wrap handles temperature extremes encountered in patrol cars
• Replace plates that have taken ballistic hits — a plate that has stopped a round has done its job and should not be trusted to do it again
